Today is the first day of the Socorro Balloon Rally. Since I woke up late I was not able to take many pictures. But, here is a collection of pictures that I took 2 years ago from the same event.
It was a beautiful day

40 balloons, 6 special shapes, the two youngest Balloon rated pilots in the United States, 10 paragliders, the most shapes of any event in the state(other than ABQ) and you were not impressed? My apologies that my 8 years of work and organization of this event disapointed you. I will try harder next year. Mike Shrum
Mike, I am sure you guys did a good job. I was comparing this year’s Socorro Balloon Rally with the one couple of years earlier. Also, I might have been a juvenile by comparing it with the ABQ Balloon fiesta.
I am not the right person to judge the performance. I was just posting my opinion because I was not able to take pictures of this year’s balloon rally. Most of my postings are subjective. There is no offense intended.
Also, I was lazy to wake up very late to watch. Maybe I missed most of it. Anyway, don’t take my postings personal.
Gopal, My response was pretty much tongue and cheek, I didn't take it personal. For a town of this size, the effect this event has on the christmas parade, and community involvement, i don't think can be compared to any event held elsewhere in the state. I google search this event and my special shape balloon on a regular basis. It helps me justify to the city and other sponsors that it is a good investment, that the media is positive, so they continue to help put this on. When the second listing down the google search is this blog, with your "subjective" input, It possibly could hit this event in the pocket book if anybody that invested in it see's it. I am just trying to protect the sport I dearly love. Thanks for your honest response to mine. Mike
My shape is the chili ristra balloon...It did not fly this year, as another pilot needed my basket to inflate saturday morning. If you want to see the sat. morning festivities, go to www.usflagballoon.com and click on Socorro Balloon festival. Thanks for posting the pictures from three years ago. Mike

I am just curious. What is your special shape? I am just wondering if I spotted it.
