I was reading the article Talking to the Solitary Genius by Victor Skowronski in Computer, August 2005, page 96. Though the article's main goal was to provide tips for improving communications between managers and the geniuses working under them, I liked the different traits that the author mentions to identify 'phony' geniuses.
Phony geniuses do not like to talk about their work. If they have to talk they speak in vague generalities and use jargon and buzzwords generously. They use verbiage because they think people do not pay attention to what they say and speculate that listeners will be impressed by the amount of words used to express rather than the quality.
Now, can you identify phony geniuses in your everyday life?
