Old Navy discount coupon

I received a bag and an advertisement from Old Navy day before yesterday. It was interesting. I will see if I can use this when I go to Albuquerque tomorrow.

Plants and Mountains Pictures

Plants

It rained in Polvadera Mountains.
I watched Finding Nemo at Marcia's place. I also tasted the Popsicle at her place. It reminded me of the ice-lolly I used to eat when I was little.
Bhaskar called me from Austin, Texas. We spoke after a long time. His adventures in flight in the USA can be found in his blog.

Today

I think it is going to be a hot day. It was sunny in the morning.

I drove to school in Hyundai as my friend took my car to Albuquerque to drive her mom around.

At 11:00, I went to a friend, who is a PhD candidate in Materials department, to look into the C code of his project. He is using Borland C++ compiler and wants to convert some of the C code to C++. I observed that he is also trying learn C++. C++ is object oriented. Before converting C to C++, one has to make full use of the functionality and understand the project and convert them into objects to make an optimal C++ program. I explained him about the library of C functions he had and advised him to look for a code file with "main" function in it.
Later, I left for Sonic and bought a "Wrap Combo" - grilled chicken wrap and mid size coke - for $4.37. I went home, ate the food from sonic, ate curd rice with lemon pickle, did the dishes, and left for office.
I was watching the noon news while eating. Generally, I keep the TV volume high. Then, I heard a familiar ring. It was the ice-cart man. Nostalgia prevailed on me. It was similar to the ice cart that used to come to our streets when I was little. I liked the ice that was frozen in small covers. They used to come in different flavors. Grape flavour was my favorite. But, mostly I used to prefer the orange color because of the color it gives to the lips. Back then, refrigerators were not a common household item. There used to be a ice-cream shop right in front of our school. Each ice pack was around 50 paise.

I met Adam while doing the dishes. He came back from Seattle yesterday night. He is feeling really hot in Socorro.

What a beautiful Day!

The morning looks lovely. When I wake up, I can see the sun shining in between the clouds from my bedroom window. But, when I go to the living room, I can see rain clouds surrounding the M-Mountain, ready to pour anytime. There is a cool breeze. So, I opened all the windows.

Lovely day

Even though most of the NM faced severe winds (over 100 mph) and hail, Socorro was relatively pleasant most of the day. It was a good day.

Yesterday, Law & Order:SVU star Mariska Hargitay was on the Jay Leno's Tonight Show. She was talking about her adventures in Hungary. She has Hungarian ancestors. I watched only the first half. Went to sleep after that.

Tetsu is coming on August 1st. This is his schedule:

AUG 1 3:45 Tokyo Narita Airport CONTINENTAL 6
AUG 1 1:45 Houston
AUG 1 5:40 Houston CONTINENTAL 177(or 1061)
AUG 1 6:52 Albuquerque

*** Updated on July 31st ***
AUG 1 3:50 Tokyo Narita Airport CONTINENTAL 6
AUG 1 1:50 Houston
AUG 1 5:40 Houston CONTINENTAL 547
AUG 1 6:52 Albuquerque

Today, not many people showed up at Badminton. Anyway, I played three games. Mohd. Islam also joined me. He needed to know some tips about Borland C++. So, he might call me sometime tomorrow morning.

I installed Konfabulator. It appears to be a very useful tool. There are a lot of widgets available that you can add to the Konfabulator. One can create their own widget with simple XML and Javascript.

In the evening, I and Szewing cleaned the house. I used Baking Soda and salt to scrub the kitchen sink. It worked very good. The sink was lustrous after a scrubbing.

Full Moon and More buds

Buds Waiting to be flowers

Buds waiting to be flowers:

Evening Showers

It rained yesterday evening. The west gym was closed because of some leak on the roof. So, we could not play Badminton. But, we played Table Tennis.

This is how the front lawn in Loma Vista looked yesterday at 6:00 pm. The sprinklers were on and it was raining.

This is how the M-Mountain looked when it rained.

Finally, the sun shined.

Finally, the first Jasmine flower of the season.

Rainy Morning and Bud

Actually, it just drizzled.

The 'M' mountain looked like this at 8:00 am.

The front lawn in front of my apartment.

The front lawn and parking lot.

I am hoping yesterday's bud to turn into flower by today evening.

2.5 GB MP3 player

I was about to buy Go Video Rave-MP ARC2.5c 2.5 GB MP3 Player. It was priced at 79.88 and included a DJ-style headphones. It also had a rechargable Li-ion battery and FM Tuner. One look at the reviews (2/5 stars) changed my mind.

NMT Email Service

The nmt email service had been out of service for the past 2 days. I am concerned. This would have caused mail bounces. I don't know the number of mails I might lose during this period. Earlier, I was hoping that the server would be fixed by Monday. There is no announcement on the nmt website or on the tcc website. The attitude is quite alarming. According to my opinion, when someone is providing a service, they should follow an agreement and adhere to it. TCC does not seem to have a process in place for communicating with the outer world in an orderly manner. A simple redirection (from webmail) or a note on the website explaining the expected time that the service would be restored, with an apology, would have sufficed. These are simple things that any service industry tends to follow.

*****Update******
They restored the service late afternoon.

Fred Thompson

I watched Law & Order-Criminal Intent. It was an okay episode. On another note, Bush Names Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson to Oversee Supreme Court Nominee I came to know that the district attorney (Arthur) in Law & Order is a real life politician. I am very happy to see him nominated.

Internet Connection using Motorola V180

I went to Shiv's house at 6:00. I took the phonetools software and the usb modem driver for Motorola. The phonetools software did not work as expected. But, the driver worked like a charm.

We connected to Earthlink in Albuquerque and Belen. The browsing was erratic. Sometimes it was slow and sometimes it was okay. I think that was due to the wireless phone.

Relaxing!

I woke up late today (10:00 am). So, I did not go to the farmer's market at the plaza.

Yesterday, while going to the gym I found a set of keys that somebody had dropped in the grass. I went to the campus police and handed them to the despatch.

I watched 2nd season, 3rd cd of Friends at Maddy's place. It was so much fun! Joey moves out when he gets a big part in Days of Our Lives. I was watching episodes till I could see Joey move back in. I really liked those episodes. They were touchy.

Turned on the water fountain that I had bought last year. I dont know if it is a decorative piece or something.

Szewing had earlier told me that the plants are dying. Today, new leaves are starting to bloom. Okay, I accept the croton given by Nicoli is not doing really great so far. But, Jasmine and Kanakambaram are coming back to life. Hope they start flowering soon.

I have to go to Shiv's place at 6:00 to install the motorola software in his laptop.

GSA, Dinner, and Word game

There was GSA meeting today. We all had pizza from Chartwells. It was horrible. Danielle highly recommended attending James Randi's presentation on July 19th.

Played badminton for a long time(6:30 to 9:00pm).

Had dinner at Dennys (Grilled Tilapia with hashbrowns and onion rings).

Jay Leno was gracious and considerate in offering condolences and support for people in London with regard to the terrorist attack. I am impressed.

I was playing FlipWords for a while. It is a fabulous word game.

Terrorist Attack in London

I woke up to this ghastly news. This attack not only affected the life of people in London but also had a lot of repercussions on the economy.

Prodigy

I saw this news article on nmt home page.
Socorro Student Achieves Perfect Score on National ACT Exam
I am really happy for David and his family. I am sure he is a prodigy and will come up in life with flying colors.

Fire in Socorro

Apparently, there was no disaster recovery plan in place for the SocorroISP.

Fire damages more than a building.
